An Interview Between You And You
Have a conversation that makes you fall in love (with yourself)
A few years ago, I read an article titled, “the 36 questions that lead to love” –– a questionnaire designed to be completed between two people to bring them closer. I tried it out with Meg, and it was incredible to witness the way knowing each other deeper became a bridge between us. In this culture, there’s a lot of focus on romantic love, but I was wondering recently, what kind of questions would help me love myself more? How can I find more intimacy with me? So I wrote up a little self-interview as a way to know myself a bit better [but also some questions I knew I liked my own answers for], and the process was so fun I was absolutely crushing on myself by the end. I’m a big believer that so much of the world could heal if we worked to heal our relationships with ourselves. So I invite you to try this out. Ask yourself questions. Get to know you in the answers. Have a blast.
Q: What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?
A: You can never make anyone else’s life better by agreeing to not be yourself.
Q: What’s the worst advice you’ve given someone else?
A: Listen to me.
Q: What’s the first ingredient in a recipe for disaster?
A: A half-truth.
Q: Who would you want to be stranded with on a desert island?
A: A boat maker.
Q: What’s the worst compliment you’ve ever received?
A: You’re very digestible.
Q: If money was no object what would you do?
A: Give it away.
Q: Is that true?
A: Alright, I’d give it away but keep a little for a pond, a pool, and a livable treehouse.
Q: What’s your karaoke song?
A: Salt N Pepa. Shoop. “Girls, what’s my weakness? Men.”
Q: Okay then––what was the luckiest day of your life?
A: The day I learned to make four leaf clovers from two three leaf clovers and some crazy glue. That’s a metaphor.
Q: If you could go back in time––
A: ––I stopped doing that.
Q: What do you think the point of life is?
A: I think I just think we can’t figure that out by thinking.
Q: If you could change anything in history what would it be?
A: The Big Bang would have been The Big Cuddle.
Q: What do your hobbies think of you?
A: My piano thinks I’m in tune. My sketch pad thinks I’m sketchy.
My skateboard can’t stop falling for me.
Q: When you adopt your next dog do you have a name in mind?
A: Peeve. Pet Peeve.
Q: If you could have a meal with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?
A: A dead person, no question.
Q: What’s your sign?
A: Historically it’s been STOP, but since meeting my girlfriend, I changed it to MERGE.
Q: When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
A: During the Big Cuddle.
Q: If you’d been raised by wolves what would be most different about you?
A: I’d spend more time naked, and I’d unfortunately eat bunnies.
Q: What could you not go a day without?
A: A day. I could not go a day without a day, I just know it.
I hope you had fun getting to know me a bit better, but more than that –– I really hope you have fun getting to know yourself better through this process. Let me know some questions you asked yourself, and some of your most crush-worthy answers!
Love, Andrea 🖤
